Bulldogs Knock Off Savage Girls, 49-32

 

Bainville’s girls’ basketball squad put together a strong defensive showing in a 4932 victory over Savage at the divisional tournament on Friday, March 7.

After falling behind 7-3 early, the Bulldogs went ahead to stay with 12 straight points. Free tosses by Hailey Berwick and Elsie Wilson produced an 8-7 advantage. Tally Berwick then scored off a nice pass from Wilson. A free toss by Wilson, another basket by T. Berwick and two free throws by H. Berwick put the margin at 15-7. Bainville led 15-9 at the end of the period.

The Bulldogs extended the margin to 15 points with the first nine points of the second period on a 14-footer by T. Berwick, a three-pointer by H. Berwick, a steal and shot by Miah Pippenger and an inside hoop by Chandi Johnson.

After a pair of free throws by Savage’s Aspen Peterson, Wilson hit a free throw for a 25-11 margin at intermission.

Wilson accounted for a drive and 12-footer to give the Bulldogs a 35-17 advantage with 2:43 remaining.

Savage responded with consecutive three-pointers by Taylor Conradsen and Cambry Conradsen. T. Conradsen then connected on a one-hand shot from threepoint range at the buzzer to cut the margin to 37-26.

Ahead by a 39-28 margin, Bainville took control with the next seven points including five points by Wilson for a 46-28 advantage with 3:48 remaining.

Reaching double figures for Bainville were Wilson with 16, H. Berwick with 12 and T. Berwick with 10 points. Also scoring were Johnson with five, Lila Butikofer with four and Pippenger with two.

Addison Hansen led the Bulldogs with eight rebounds. H. Berwick finished with four assists and four steals. Wilson had five steals.

Leading Savage were C. Conradsen with 11 and Peterson with nine points.
