Indians Lose Opening Contest Against Rocky Boy, 60-51


The Poplar Indians fell behind in the second period and lost to Rocky Boy, 60-51, in the first round of the divisional tournament in Cut Bank on Thursday, March 6.
The game was deadlocked at 8-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Rocky Boy ran off 23 points in the second quarter for a 31-16 half-time advantage.
Poplar battled back to 4238 in the third quarter by scoring 22 points in the third period.
Rocky Boy tallied 18 points in the final period for the victory.
Walker Burshia led the Indians with 19 points. Kaniel Ricker had a strong game with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Also scoring were Dane Moran with six, Wilder Bearcub with five, Blake Lambert with four, Keilen Erickson with four and Chasen Pribbernow with two.
Having nine rebounds each were Erickson and Burshia.
The Indians hit just five of their 18 free-throw attempts in the contest.
Leading Rocky Boy’s attack were Willis Morsette with 26 and Aeron Gopher with 22 points. Jayden Stanley finished with seven steals.
Rocky Boy was 16 for 22 from the foul stripe.
