Red Hawks Battle Circle
The Froid/Lake Red Hawks put together a strong effort but fell against Circle, 48-41, in the opening round of the Eastern C girls’ divisional tournament on Wednesday, March 5.
A 14-footer by Brooklynn Nordwick put the Red Hawks ahead 25-24 midway into the third quarter, but Circle struck for the next seven points including four by Madeline Moline.
The Wildcats increased their lead to 37-28 before a basket by Froid/Lake’s Mara Salvevold ended the quarter.
The Red Hawks opened the fourth period with three points by Isabelle Nordwick and a drive by Salvevold to close the gap to 37-35 with 5:25 remaining.
After an inside basket by Circle’s Emma Murphy, the Red Hawks tied the game on a hoop by B. Nordwick and a steal and drive by Salvevold with 4:10 left.
The Wildcats responded with the next five points on a three-point play by M. Moline and a drive by M. Moline after a steal by Murphy.
The Red Hawks came as close as 44-41 when Salvevold scored inside with 1:53 remaining, but Froid/Lake couldn’t get any closer.
