LCHS had the privilege of having Dan Hubbard speak at daily chapels last week in Spiritual Emphasis Week. He came from Minnesota to spend the week with the students.

Awana Awards night was March 19. Commander Dawson Olfert said they had two goals this year as a club. 1) Scripture Memorization on a deeper level, so they included a versathon. 2,615 verses was the final total recited by students and their leaders and a few visitors who came to listen or say verses. The amount raised was still being calculated as it was still coming in, and so far was $10,023 for the four ministries designated in support. He said in some cultures where it’s not allowed to have a Bible, the people find a way to memorize huge sections or passages, a page at a time, dividing the Scriptures between them. 2) The second goal was to learn of the power of prayer. One day when it was requested, they did a prayer huddle for a gal in the Truth in Training club age, McKenna, whose ct scan had shown her cancer had returned, and they were waiting for “what’s next”. “Last week McKenna came back with a doctor’s report of NO cancer, in the follow-up scan!”

She is back to feeling good, and the Awana clubbers are rejoicing with her and her family. “They got to see the power of prayer,” said Dawson. Many of the clubbers finished their books (memorizing all the verses within), several earned their “Timothy Award”, and four students earned the Gold Cup award for learning all the silver level and the gold level extra credit verses on time each week. They were Piper Neufeld, Nancy Schiller, Jake Neufeld and Ian Unrau. Dawson Olfert gave a devotional on Acts 4:10-12 and Philippians 2:1-11, focusing on the Name of Jesus, after reviewing briefly all the other names of God they had studied. He challenged the students to think deeply about how they responded to Jesus. Then he closed the meeting by leading the entire group gathered in prayer for Dean Reddig, who was injured in a motorbike accident in Arizona on Monday.
