Mahlum hoped that the event will lead to some dialogue in the community to help solve the problem.

Mahlum said the violence is the “top of the mountain” of challenges that also includes drug problems and people struggling financially.

Tribal Executive Board member Wayne Martell talked to the participants about the break down of the family including drug and alcohol use.

“We need to love and care for each other,” Martell said. He mentioned teaching children how to be good community members.
