Poplar Golfers Aim For Successful 2025 Season

Poplar’s golf program features seven boys and five girls this season.
“We have more girls out this year,” Poplar Coach Brock Copenhaver said. “It’s a good number to work with.”
Girls with the most playing experience include junior Bree Brown, sophomore Frankie Crawford and Masina Youpee. Senior Angelina Escarcega also is expected to have a solid season for the Indians.
At last season’s divisional meet, Brown was just a few stokes out of the top 15 when the second day of the meet was canceled due to weather.
Top returning boys for the golf team include Lucas Young, Kaniel Ricker, Blake Lambert, Gavyn Grainger and Navarjo Escarcega. Zek Gourneau will also help the Indians after golfing with Wolf Point’s team last year.
Ricker and Young each came close to qualifying for the state meet last season.
“We should have at least one if not three qualify for state this year,” Copenhaver predicted.
Both the divisional meet and state meet will be held in Shelby this season.
Copenhaver said that Shelby is a tough course, and the Indians are golfing there twice during the season to become familiar with it.
