This year, the Roosevelt County DUI Task Force is offering up a scholarship of $500 to any high school senior graduating in 2020 from a school within the boundaries of Roosevelt County. The focus of this year’s scholarship is to write an essay on how the student chooses to live above the influence of alcohol use, drug use, peer pressure, bullying or any other negative influences around them.

The Froid/Lake boys’ basketball squad came away with a fourth-place showing from the Eastern C divisional tournament in Glasgow. The tourney featured two victories and two close defeats for the Red Hawks. Froid/Lake opened the tournament with a 58-34 win over Lustre on Wednesday. The Froid/Lake girls’ basketball team came a game away from the state tournament when the Red Hawks fell by a 47-39 final against MonDak in Plentywood on Monday night, March 2. Froid/Lake earned third place at the Eastern C divisional tournament and ended the season with a 19-7 record. Against MonDak in the challenge game, the Red Hawks trailed by a 37-28 margin entering the final quarter.

David Joseph “Joey” Cord, 25, was sentenced in Roosevelt County District Court in Wolf Point Feb. 12 after a jury found him guilty of sexual assault on Sept. 13, 2019.
