Poplar Holds Star Quilt Ceremony


Poplar honored its senior standouts with a star quilt ceremony for senior night on Saturday, Feb. 6. The event was held prior to the basketball game against Wolf Point. Seniors in the boys’ basketball program included Wilfred Lambert and Inyan Growing Thunder. Seniors for the girls’ basketball team were Dusti Marottek, Keandra Martell, Macey Dionne, Catherine Bear and Kahomani Charboneau.

Piocos Appointed As County Attorney


The Roosevelt County Commissioners unanimously appointed Frank A. Piocos as the new county attorney on Monday, Feb. 1. Piocos will finish the term of Austin Knudsen, who was elected the state’s new attorney general in November. Piocos starts the new job immediately. His appointment will last under Dec. 31, 2022. Azure Repeats As Wolf Point’s Spelling Champion


There was a repeat winner in the Wolf Point Spelling Bee on Thursday, Jan. 29. Griffin Azure, an eighth-grade student, earned the title for the second straight year. In the ninth round, Azure and Shiloh Headress were the only two of 24 participants remaining in the competitions. Azure spelled “stretcher” correctly while Headress had a mistake in that round.
