Suzette Marie “Suzie Q” Eagleman, 30, died July 8, 2020, at the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colo. She was born on May 25, 1990, to Vern Eagleman and Bernice Martin of Poplar. She liked to take walks to town and visit friends, check on Grandpa Stevie Gray Hawk and Teddy Youngman, her love. She held on to the love and laughter, the smiles, hello and good-byes and the see you laters. She is survived by her daughters, Carmen Eagleman, Emma, Maleena Fast Horse and Lilly Ann; sisters, Emily Martin, Verna Alcasid Eagleman, Roxanne Mae Eagleman and Lydia Chaser; brothers, Robert Eder, Richard Eagleman and Curtis Chasey; grandparents, Stevie Gray Hawk, Thomas D. Martin, Ruth Big Talk Martin and Melvin Eagleman Sr.; brothers, Martin Chaser Jr.; and step-father, Marvin Chaser Sr. A funeral service was held Monday, July 20, at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment followed at the Riverside Catholic Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel of Wolf Point was entrusted with the arrangements.

Elizabeth “Betty” Helen Serdahl, 95, entered Heaven’s gates on July 16, 2020. She passed away of congestive heart failure while living at Open Arms Elder Care in Belgrade, Mont. Born in Fargo, N.D., on Oct. 16, 1924, to Dirk Johannes Geiken and Sophie Uchytil Geiken, Betty attended school in Fargo and graduated in January of 1943. Betty developed a love for the piano at age nine, and she coaxed her parents into buying a piano and lessons. While in high school, she added the violin and French horn, giving her a great foundation in music. Her high school piano teacher pushed for her to audition with The Juilliard School of Music in New York; however, God had other plans as Betty felt the calling to go to Bible college and prepare to be a missionary. In 1944, while attending Central Bible College in Springfield, Miss., she was introduced to Walter Serdahl of Columbus, N.D. In the summer of 1949 after college graduation, Betty and Walter’s paths would cross once again at Lake Geneva Bible Camp at Alexandria, Minn. Shortly thereafter, Walter was asked to be the assistant pastor at Betty’s church, the Fargo First Assembly of God. Walter and Betty were engaged in January of 1950 and married on April 8, 1950. They pastored at churches in North Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. While at their first church in Roseau, Minn., they welcomed their son, Daniel Charles Serdahl and three years later in Springfield, Minn., a daughter, Beth Eileen Serdahl Pickthorn was added to the family. In August of 1970, they moved to Wolf Point, Mont., to minister at the Assembly of God church. They went on to minister at other church locations in 1975 and traveled as evangelists for many years. They returned back to Wolf Point in 1988 to semi-retire from the ministry. Over the years, Betty gave piano lessons to so many wonderful students. She was fortunate to give lessons to many generations within the same family at times. After 44 years of marriage, Betty had to say goodbye to Walter on Feb. 13, 1994, when he passed away of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Betty moved from Wolf Point to Poulsbo, Wash., in the summer of 2002 to be closer to her son, Dan. She enjoyed the Pacific Northwest for 14 years and was a member of Gateway Fellowship Church. In October 2016, Betty moved back to Wolf Point to live with her daughter, Beth, and then moved into a private assisted living home in Belgrade, Mont., in February 2019. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Serdahl; mother, Sophie Geiken; father, Dirk Geiken; and brother and sister-in-law, Don and Millie Gieken. Betty will be forever remembered by her son, Daniel (Laurie) Serdahl of Sisters, Ore., daughter, Beth Serdahl Pickthorn of Wolf Point, Mont.; granddaughters Danielle (Joe) Prewett of Belgrade, Mont., Carly (Whit) Rush of Wolf Point, Mont.; and her great-grandchildren, whom she adored, Hannah Prewett, Ayla, Cannon and Hope Rush. Charles E. “Chuck” Borchert, 64, passed away the evening of June 27, 2020, with his family by his side. Chuck was born in Sidney, Mont., on Dec. 28, 1955, to parents Emil and Anna Borchert. He lived his life enjoying time with family and friends and loved going to garage sales. Anytime a person would see him, they could see the light in his life by the smile on his face and in his heart. He resided in Sidney, Mont., most of his life and lived in Wolf Point for a few years. Chuck had been having medical concerns with his heart the past several years, he is now at peace with his family members who passed before him. Chuck is survived by his sons, Zack Borchert and Shawn Borchert and their mother, Georgina Brunelle; his close nephew, Mike Anderson, Betty Anderson and family from Sidney, Mont.; his sister, Lois Wilson and family from San Tan Valley, Ariz.; his brothers, Bill Borchert and his family of Cheyenne, Wyo., and John Borchert and family of Missoula, Mont. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Anna Borchert; his sisters, Adaline Brenden, Fern Cornell and Mary Lou Anderson; and his brother, Willard Borchert. Wayne Delvin Little Crow, 55, formerly of Brockton died Saturday, June 20, 2020. He was born in Poplar Aug. 31, 1964, to Marietta (Babe) Blount-Four Bear and Rudolph (Wixie) Young. He lived his life in Brockton where he was raised by his mother and grandmother, Kathleen Red Eagle-Blount. He attended Brockton Public Schools, finished with a GED and graduated from the Fort Peck Community College with an associate of science degree in hazardous materials/ waste technology on May 9, 2009. He was elected to the Brockton School board in May 2013 and served until October 2014. He realized the importance of an education, but also knew he had to set an example for his community, which he did. He loved to read. He read books and magazines about science and Native American history in his spare time. He also liked to watch a good movie. He enjoyed participating in and watching sports, starting with elementary through professional level. It was common for him to turnover a box, tin tub or plastic basin to use as a drum to practice songs when he was growing up. He always caught the ear of the neighbors. He succeeded in becoming a member of the Fort Kipp Juniors drum group. He leaves a collection of tapes and 78s of the Fort Kipp, Badland and other singers. He was honored to be a member of the Fort Kipp Pow Wow Committee for many years. He spent the later part of his life living with his mother. He worked various jobs to support himself and help her with her needs as he would say. He enjoyed visiting relatives in his free time to learn family history and traditional ways which included helping family. He spent many hours helping take care of a niece and nephew, William and Ronnie Prichard, who lived with their Grandma and Grandpa Fourbear. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Darrell Todd Sr., Al Rodney Todd and Dennis Todd; sister, Iva Todd and grandchild, Daylin Eder. He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Bird; five grandchildren; mother, Marietta (Babe) Four Bear; sisters, Kayleen Headdress, Luane Pearl Four Bear Brown; and brother, Richard Dubois. A graveside service was held Friday, July 3, at Riverview Cemetery in Brockton. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel was entrusted with the arrangements.

Darryl Keith “DK” Buck Elk Jr., 26, died June 25, 2020, in Poplar. He was born to Darryl Keith Buck Elk Sr. and Arleda Shields on Feb. 10, 1994, in Poplar. He attended school in Poplar, Brockton, Culbertson, Colstrip, Wolf Point and Lame Deer. He had many friends through his school years. He attended the Mormon church and was taking classes to be baptized. He had several jobs over the years, including working at Golden Corral, Town Pump and the Buckhorn; but he was most known for being an artist. He enjoyed driving around and drawing in his sketchbook. He also loved to draw and give tattoos. He met his wife, Shaila Buck Elk, in 2014 and they spent five years with each other. During the time, they spent together, they had two children, Marley Grace Buck Elk and Quincey John Buck Elk. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Emmanuel and Chris Buck Elk. He is survived by three children Rylan, Marley and Quincey; sisters, Darice, Sylvia, Angel and Sheila Black Wolf; brothers, Shane Freemont and Hubert Black Wolf Jr. He loved Heather very much. His funeral was held Friday, July 2, at the Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment was at the Fort Kipp Cemetery. Trace Louis Hilburn, four, of Sidney died June 19, 2020. He was born four weeks early on May 4, 2016, in Miles City to parents Trey and Kayla (Mindt) Hilburn. He joined three older brothers, Aaron, Nathan, and Konnar. Being the fourth of five boys, he grew up tough. From the day he was born, he had a mind of his own. Even though he knew how to walk by the age of eight months, he absolutely refused and chose to bear crawl until he was 1½ years old. He was such a charmer, always giving people compliments. He loved his family and had a special place in his heart for his grandparents. When visiting Grandma Carrie and Papa Eddie in Fort Peck, he found terrorizing the minnows in the tank so exciting. He also could be found sneaking into the Lakeridge store convincing his grandparents, aunts, and uncles that he really needed a Zinger, even if that meant denying his parents’ wishes. He treasured fishing the Missouri River with Papa Marty even if all they caught were memories. Moments with Grandma Tina were spent outdoors in the garden, watering flowers or going inside to bake cookies or read books. Hunting, fishing and t-ball were always at the top of his list of favorite activities. He was a mischievous, goofy, sweet little boy who enjoyed life and lit up any room he entered. He attended preschool at Heart Prints & Hand Prints Preschool. He took his learning very seriously, always quizzing to make sure his family was paying attention to what he was teaching them. He had big dreams to accomplish and was set on becoming a doctor. Some of his most cherished toys were his anatomy toys and pretend doctor kit. He is survived by his parents, Trey and Kayla Hilburn; brothers, Aaron, Nathan, Konnar and Tatum; grandparents, Eddie and Carrie Mindt and Marty and Tina Strauser; great-grandparents, Larry and Sharon Mindt, Denise Herman, Don and Margret Ligon. Services were held Friday, June 26, at the Richland County Fairgrounds Event Center in Sidney. Burial was in the Lambert Cemetery in Lambert.

Robert “Bucky” Wesley Charette, 54, of Billings, died June 21, 2020. He was born Jan. 8, 1966, to Alfred and Roberta Charette. He graduated with honors in 1984 from Wolf Point High School. He graduated with an associates degree in automotive technology in 1994 from Billings Vocational Technical Center. He was married to Pear Buckles from 1984 to 1990 and to Elizabeth King from 1990 to 2002. He was employed at Grain Craft as an assistant miller from Jan. 11, 2005, until his death. He had a love for Akitas, fixing cars, helping others and finding deals. He also loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren, and always looked forward to camping and fishing in Forsythand traveling to concerts. He is survived by brother, Mark Charette; children, Karri Mattick, Austin King and Tawny King; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shyleigh Christian. Services were held June 27 in Billings.

Mary Joan “Jo” Bryan, age 89, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 27, 2020, in Wolf Point, Mont. Born in St. Joseph, Mo., to Hugh and Marion Whitten on May 9, 1931, Jo spent her younger years traveling with her family as her father’s job as an engineer for the Great Northern Railroad frequently moved them to various places. When Jo turned 11, she was excited to become a big sister to her brother Russ. Jo graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota with a degree in English. It was during her school years at Jamestown that she was fortunate enough to meet the love of her life, Keith Bryan. Keith and Jo married on March 5, 1951, and went on to raise four children together in their small, cherished town of Wolf Point, Mont. Jo was eager to share that Wolf Point was the first town she lived in for more than two consecutive years. She went on to make Wolf Point her home for 69 years. Jo dedicated her time to raising her children and serving her community. Together, Keith and Jo ran the successful family business of Bryan’s department store. Never one to shy away from a challenge or an opportunity, Jo supported Keith in many successful business ventures throughout their marriage. When their children were old enough to work, Jo and Keith purchased an A& W Root Beer franchise and hired their kids and other local high school students as car hops, cooks, and more. Jo loved to share stories of how the A& W Root Beer was made and the time it took to get the flavor “just right.” Jo was a member of many community organizations and humbly gave back to residents of Wolf Point each and every day. She was a long standing member of Eastern Star, served as the Presbyterian Church secretary for many years, and also served as the secretary for the Riverview Home for children when it was first established. Jo was a strong supporter of the Al Bedoo temple and stood proudly by Keith when he served as Potentate in 1980. Jo enjoyed entertaining and having gatherings in her home and community. She loved cooking and always had a new recipe to share. Her grandchildren will never forget her famous Swedish meatballs at Christmas time that were sent frozen in coffee cans through the mail to their homes. Though she could never tell you the exact recipe, we know they tasted so good because they were made with love. Jo never let bad grammar go uncorrected, or elbows to be on the table at dinner time and knew that good manners were a necessity in life. She could always be found playing cards with anyone who would challenge her to a game. She especially loved playing Bridge and always encouraged playing for money. She was eager to teach new card players the tricks of the games and to help them to learn to play strategically. She would then laugh and encourage another game after she beat you at cards again. After retirement, Jo spent many days on the lake at their home on Fort Peck Lake and enjoyed time at the beach in Mexico and Oceanside, Calif. Jo was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 69 years, Keith Bryan; her parents, Hugh and Marion Whitten; and treasured son-in-law, Jerry Fossen. Survivors include her four children, Mike (Shelley) of Glasgow, Mont., George of Denver, Colo., Jan of Wolf Point, Mont., and Laura Fossen of Whitewood, S.D.; along with six adored grandchildren, Kenny (Sara) Bryan of Glasgow, Mont., Keith (Abby) Higgins of Wolf Point, Mont., Jessica Robles of Wolf Point Mont., Todd Fossen of Spearfish, S.D., Sandra (Patrick) Cass of Sturgis, S.D., and Bryana (Nick) Marsicano of Cañon City, Colo.; seven great-grandchildren Matthew Bryan, Archer Higgins, Mia Thomas, EmmahLeigh and Owen Cass and Avery and Reese Marsicano. Jo is also survived by her brother, Russ Whitten of Tucson, Ariz.; and seven loving nieces. (Paid Obituary)

Leon G. Merculieff, 48, died June 24, 2020, in Poplar. He was born Nov. 19, 1971 to Barbara Joyce Merculieff and Gerald Hollow in Poplar. He grew up in Poplar and Ashland. He enjoyed being outdoors with friends and family. He did odd jobs around town. He is survived by one son, Gerald Merculieff of Billings; sisters, Loya Wind (WarClub), Angela WarClub of Minnesota and Jo Hollow of North Dakota; three brothers, Virgil Merculieff of Poplar, Michael Hollow of North Dakota and Stacy Redditt of South Dakota. Funeral services were held Monday, June 29, at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery. Olivia Marie Longtree “Wasté Hehaka Wiya” (Good Elk Woman), 44, died June 23, 2020. She was born June 30, 1975, to Robert Longtree and Sherry (TurningBear) Longtree in Poplar. She grew up in Poplar where she attended elementary, middle and high school. She graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1995. Throughout life, she made big impacts on the lives she touched and, in return, she made many friends. When she wasn’t watching her little brother, she loved to draw, hang with friends, listen to music and drive around. She loved to jingle dress and hit the powwow trails. She loved to make everyone laugh and smile. She was kind, considerate, helpful, caring and giving and had a great sense of humor. She is survived by her mother, Sherry Longtree; brother, Christopher Longtree; and sister, Christina Longtree. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Longtree Jr. Funeral services were held Monday, June 29, at Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Interment was at St. Ann’s Cemetery.
