Beverly Ann (Nelson) Martell, 83, of Bend, Ore., died on April, 9, 2021, at her home. She was born Oct. 4, 1937, at the Martin farm in Dane Valley near McCabe to Nels and Blenda (Salvevold) Nelson She attended school in Culbertson, where she was an honor student, graduating in 1955. She was very active in cheerleading, drama and choir. She married her long-time friend and classmate, Michael Martell, on July 9, 1955, in Sidney. They moved to southern California where they lived for 15 years. In 1970, the family moved to Sweet Home, Ore., where the children finished their education. In 1985, they moved to Portland, Ore. Upon retirement, they bought property in Bend, Ore., in 1997 where they built a home and resided. Both were very active in their church, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She was preceded in death by brothers, Wilbur “Boob” Nelson, Donald Nelson and David Nelson. She is survived by husband, Michael; sons, Larry Martell (who subsequently died April 11, 2021) and Michael Jr.; daughters, Donna Poirier and Peggy Cordier; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Her service will be held at Holy Communion Church in Bend, Ore., on Friday, April 23, at 3 p.m.

Ardell Jeanine Nelson, 88, of Plentywood died March 28, 2021. She was born May 3, 1932, the middle child of Soren Sorensen Rungborg and Myrtle Marie (Andersen) Rungborg, in the old Sheridan Memorial Hospital in Plentywood. Myrtle Marie “Ree” Mullin, 91, died March 17, 2021, at the Valley View Nursing Home in Glasgow. She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in Yates Center, Kansas, to Martin and Myrtle Lake, the eldest of six children. With fiery red hair, she was very active singing in solos, duets, trios and acted in many plays throughout school. Terry Hinderer (Spurgeon- Landru), 73, of Culbertson, Mont., died Feb. 12, 2021, after a brief illness at SLC Hospital in Billings, Mont. Terry was born to Gayle and Rae (Rousek) Spurgeon on Feb. 12, 1948, in Belle Fouche, S.D. She was soon joined by brothers Michael and Rory Spurgeon. Most of her earlier years were spent growing up on the Landru Ranch near Lewistown, Mont., where she was joined by brothers, Alan and David Landru, and sister, Shelley Landru. After graduation from Fergus County High School, she spent several years in St. Paul, Minn., before returning to Montana, where she lived between the mountains of Lewistown and Helena before finally settling in the prairies of Culbertson. All who ever knew Terry understood her capacity to love and persevere. It was often said that “her heart was as big as Texas.” Her smile was big, her laugh was hearty, her hugs were unforgettable and her stubbornness legendary. The most cherished moments of her life were when her daughter Lindsey Rae was born and the births of her granddaughters Destiny and Madison. They were truly her heartbeat. For the last 20 years of her life, she found an enduring love and companionship with her husband, Richard Hinderer, who whisked her away as his bride to the rolling prairies of Culbertson. They enjoyed many road trips out searching to capture the beauty of eastern Montana in photographs. Through Richard, she found more loving family with daughter Sandra and her children Avery, Easten and Peyton and son Steve. She is survived by her husband, Richard of Culbertson; daughter, Lindsey Landru (Robert Fasuga) of Helena; granddaughters, Destiny and Madison of Helena; daughter, Sandra Smith of Lynchburg, Va.; granddaughter, Avery, and grandsons, Easten and Peyton of Lynchburg, Va.; son, Steve Hinderer of Lakeville, Minn.; brothers, Mike (Yayoi) Spurgeon of Missoula, Rory (Leslie) Spurgeon and Jody Spurgeon of Spokane, Wash., Bill Spurgeon of Tennessee and David Landru of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; sister, Shelley Andrus of Great Falls; nephews, Rick (Jennifer) of Missoula and Dustin (Jennea) of Great Falls; nieces, Tiffany (Bodie) of Great Falls, Carli of Austin, Texas, and Stephanie (Shawn) of Spokane, Wash.; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. She is also survived by sisters (in-law), Susan Spurgeon and MaryJo Landru. Terry was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Rae Landru and Gayle and Chris Spurgeon; brother, Alan Landru; and nephew, Chris Spurgeon. Cremation has taken place and the family is planning a memorial service in the summer. Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown is assisting the family.
