Harold Garfield, 59, of Wolf Point died Nov. 2, 2024, at his home in Wolf Point. He was born Jan. 9, 1965, to Violet Hamilton and Rayfield Garfield. He is an enrolled member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes. He grew up in Wolf Point and attended school here. In his youth, he loved fishing and being outdoors and working on cars, a favorite pastime shared with his son, Robert Garfield. He was always there for his mother and helped her fix things around the house. He was a helpful and caring handyman. He met Sherri Comeslast and, to this union, daughters Auriona, Jatonna and Jacquelyn were born. He had a great sense of humor, finding the good in all things. He always filled moments spent with him with laughter and appreciation for the smaller things in life. He is survived by his daughters, Auriona, Jatonna, Jacquelyn and Heavynn Onstad; and brothers, Jonathan and Alwin; sisters, Janell, Paula and Cynthia; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Garfield; and sisters, Lena Siljenberg, Angel Garfield and Susan Garfield. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m. at the new Wolf Point Community Hall. Interment will follow at Chicken Hill Cemetery. Rae C Marsh Murphy, 94, died Oct. 31, 2024, at the Mc-Cone County Nursing Home in Circle. She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Circle and was raised on the family farm on Cow Creek, south of Vida, alongside her three sisters, the daughters of Raymond and Ruth Marsh. Her education began at Cow Creek School, then Wolf Point Elementary and graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1948. She attended Northern Montana College for a short time. She worked briefly as a telephone operator in Wolf Point. She met Gerald Murphy at a country dance, beginning a lifelong partnership. While he was stationed in Germany, they were married in Moneydig Presbyterian Church in Cushendall, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, with his aunt and uncle as witnesses. Together, they settled on the ranch on Horse Creek Road near Circle, where they raised five children. She set the example of hard work, whether it was driving tractor, working sheep and cattle, her beautiful garden along with strawberry and raspberry patches, and her apple trees. With all her outside work, she was still able to keep an extremely tidy house. She loved sports, whether watching her children play and keeping stats or competing on her own. Organized sports were not around when she was in school, but she enjoyed golf and bowling. She and Gerald loved golf and played league in Glendive. Eventually, they began traveling south for the winters to partake of the sport. While south, they enjoyed attending PGA tournaments. They loved to travel and were able to make a return trip to Ireland with Gerald’s sister/ husband. She was also very dedicated to First Lutheran Church as the treasurer of WELCA. During her children’s school years, she taught Sunday/ Monday school. She is survived by her children, Kim Murphy, Dina Davis, Jill Pinnick, Jere Murphy and Joni Garpestad; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; granddaughter, Michelle Murphy; and siblings, Marian Laubauch, Dorothy Tingler and Evelyn Casterline. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Circle, with internment immediately following the service at the Riverview Cemetery.

Ivan Phillip Roberts, 75, of Poplar died Oct. 30, 2024, at Billings Clinic in Billings. He grew up on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana and was proud of his full blood Sioux affiliation to that tribe. He is a descendant of the Bad Temper Bear Clan. He grew up in Frazer and played basketball for the Frazer High School Bear-Cubs. At the age of 20, wanting to see more of the world, he enlisted in the Army, which led to him being sent overseas and into Vietnam War, where he received the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Combat Infantryman, Good Conduct, Parachutist, Pathfinder, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Bronze Star awards and medals. In 1971, he was honorably discharged, moved home and later attended college in Missoula. He met Kathy Birdsbill in the summer of 1969 and continued a relationship throughout the years. They were married March 21, 1987. They had one son, Matthew. They enjoyed watching basketball games and his football team, the Denver Broncos, play. He held several jobs. He worked at the Transco Railroad in Miles City and later retired from A& S Industries in Poplar. He is survived by Matthew; step-sons, Jarett and Nolan of Wolf Point, Eli and Tanya of Nebraska; brother, Tony Iron Bear; sisters, Linda Dean of Miles City, Neva Spotted Wolf, JoAnna Spotted Wolf, Lucinda Standing Bear, Linda Iron Bear Lezard, Myrna Iron Bear Daniels and Cheryl Iron Bear Boyd, all of Poplar. He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Roberts; father, Harry Iron Bear Sr.; brothers, Lloyd, Clarence, Gerald, August “Jug,” Austin “Moose,” Merele, Harry Jr., Alfred, Lonnie and Sonny; and sisters, Beth, BettyJo and Charmaine Iron Bear and Agnes “Babygirl” Spotted Wolf. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Interment was at Poplar City Cemetery. Iola Bighorn Scott, 81, of Poplar died Oct. 31, 2024, in Poplar. She was born in Box Elder June 12, 1942, to Jacob Bighorn and Jane Half Red. She graduated from Brockton High School and excelled as a student. After high school, she married Michael Wayne Youngman Sr. In that union, they had four children, Michelle Wade, Michelle Youngman Wilsey, Michael “Speedy” Wayne Jr. and Muriel Wynn Youngman. Upon returning to her home reservation, she became a CNA. She worked at the Poplar Hospital for 28½ years. She made many friendships and took care of her patients the best way she could. She raised her grandchildren and gave them a stable and happy home life. She married Dorrance Scott. She treasured every phone call and visit and adored her family. She and her family attended missionary meetings, ladies aid and the nursing home. She ensured her family loved others more than themselves, an amazing gift she granted them. She was preceded in death by her sons, Mitchell Wade and Michael “Speedy” Wayne Youngman Jr.; and her brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Brockton Cultural Center. Interment was at Fort Kipp Cemetery. Betty Jean McGinnis, 98, of Culbertson died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson. A celebration of life was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Culbertson with Pastor Gretchen Wagner officiating. Interment was in the Cherry Creek Cemetery near Culbertson.

John Leonard Martell Sr., 67, of Wolf Point died Nov. 6, 2024, at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point. He was born June 17, 1957 in Wauwatosa, Wis., the youngest of eight children of Maxim and Violet Martell. He resided in Wolf Point with his children and animals. In 1978-1981, he met and married Mary Ellen Greyhawk. From this union, they had three children, John Martell Jr., Unity Guen Martell and Felicia Martell. In 1982, he met Eunice Longtree and had 12 children, Yovette Martell, Jordan Martell, Trista Martell, Blair Martell, Thomas Martell, Johnna Martell, Mada Martell, Chance Martell, Morgan Martell, Isaiah Martell, Trinity Martell and Semone Martell. In his life, he had various jobs, but being a master mechanic was most important to him. Everyone that had spent time with him knew he was a rebel. He liked playing machines and loved Elvis. He is survived by his children, John Martell Jr. of Poplar, Yovette Dupree of Wolf Point, Unity Guen of Poplar, Felicia Mathison of Poplar, Jordan Martell of Rochester, Minn., Trista Martell of Wolf Point, Blair Martell of Wolf Point, Thomas Martell of Wolf Point, Johnna Welch of Wolf Point, Mada Martell of Billings, Chance Martell of Wolf Point, Isaiah Martell of Wolf Point, Semone Martell of Wolf Point; numerous grandchildren he helped raise; and siblings, Max Martell of Glendive, Margorie Ivy of Wisconsin, Terri Lone Bear of Lame Deer, Kathy Roundface of Poplar, Vicki Martell of Sidney, Deann Lemay of Poplar, Valerie Martell of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Maxine Zimmerman, Marily and Mayda Martelll and two brothers, Richard and Jimmy Martell; and his son, Trinity Martell. A wake was held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Poplar Cultural Center. Colin James Ulrich, 44 of Richey died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2024, at Glendive Medical Center Extended Care. A graveside service was held Monday, Nov. 4, in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive with Kris Buller officiating.

Claire Lynn Potts, 15, of Jordan died Oct. 30, 2024. She was born May 11, 2009, to Clint and DaLauna Potts. She joined her brother, Forrest, just 12½ months after he was born. The two siblings were inseparable. As soon as they could walk, they could ride and, from then on, the family was able to cowboy till the job was complete. Her work ethic was never questioned. From a young age, her determination and grit shined through. Her horsemanship skills were something to see, especially her trick riding. Not only could she handle the regular cowboying tasks, but she could look stunningly beautiful while hanging off the side of her loyal steed, Batman, to entertain a crowd. She always seemed at ease flying on the back of her horses. Her fearlessness was a part of everything she did. It was part of her presence when she entered the room, court, track or arena. She could smile and everyone knew she was ready for whatever came next. On the flip side, if she didn’t smile, all knew she was not in a mind to be bossed around. Fortunately, these moments never lasted long, and her smile would return,
