Diana Darlene Fryhling passed peacefully on Aug. 12, 2023, at the age of 74 in Helena, Mont. Diana was born to Fred and Lilly Fryhling on April 8, 1949, in Williston, N.D. Diana graduated from Culbertson High School in 1968. Diana was raised on the family farm in Culbertson, Mont., and spent some time in Minnesota and Florida before returning to Montana to live in Helena. Diana was an

Brenda Kostelecky, 57, of Culbertson died July 5, 2023, in Billings. She was born Feb. 8, 1966, in Minot, N.D., to her parents Ronald and Geraldine Pennell. Raised in Culbertson, she held a deep appreciation for her community. She attended Culbertson School, where she later graduated. She cherished the memories and friendships formed during her time there. It was in Culbertson where she met her husband Francis Kostelecky. ElRoy Kittleson


ElRoy Kittleson, 89 of Fairview died Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Roosevelt Medical Center in Culbertson. He was born on the 9th day of the 5th month on the 34th year (as he always used to say) to Jennie Euakima Storvik Kittleson and Henry Clarence Kittleson in Sidney. He was a younger brother to sister Helen and older brother to Jim and Hank (Henry Jr.). They were raised on the family farm northwest of Fairview. As a child, he attended school at Nohly until the eighth grade. The death of their mother when the children were small left Helen in charge of her younger brothers. He learned hard work ethics and discipline at a very young and it carried him through his entire life. He was an avid baseball fan and really enjoyed playing the sport, until he broke his leg. He married Ruth Stride in 1956 and, to this union, five children were born: Dennis, Ken, Doug, Barbie and Dan. Justin Nehring

Justin Nehring


Justin Girard Nehring, 44, of Williston, N.D., died Saturday, June 16, 2023, at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston in Williston. He was born Oct. 14, 1978, in Watford City, N.D., the son of Rebecca Holm and Charles Girard Nehring. He attended grade school at Round Prairie School and graduated from Bainville High School. He joined the Army National Guard in May 1999 and retired in May 2021. He proudly served a year overseas in Iraq during his service. He married Leslie (Steen) Nehring in August 2008 and they have two girls, Whitney D. and Rylie K. He enjoyed tinkering on projects and working with his cattle on the farm. He loved off-roading with his Bronco and teaching his girls that skill and too many others to mention. He loved helping his girls with their animals and projects for 4H. He was employed by Northwest Rural Water at the time of his death. He was a kind and giving person and devoted father, husband and brother. He was willing to help anyone at any time. He is survived by his wife, Leslie; daughters, Whitney and Rylie; and sister, Tracie. Services will be announced at a later date.

David Hustad

David Hustad


David (Shanks) Hustad, 70, of Nashua died June 18, 2023, at his home. He was born Sept. 6, 1952, in Williston, N.D., to Norman Lewis Shanks and Betty Lou (Eschenbacher) Hustad. He attended school in Bainville, graduating in 1971. Afterwards, he worked for his father’s business as a painter. He married Lottie Jane Hensley in 1973 in Harlem. They settled in Glasgow. Two children were born to this union, Nikita “Nicky” and Kari, before divorcing at a later time. He later started a business, picking up grain samples from elevators along a route stretching the Hi-Line from Great Falls to Plentywood and delivering them for testing. In time, he also picked up movie reels from the movie theaters in addition to picking up film rolls along his route to take for processing. He was a self-taught diesel mechanic with a love for Volkswagons. He spent a period of time working on people’s vehicles at his home, first in Glasgow and then in Nashua after relocating there in 1992. He spent time as his daughters’ babysitter and had fun teaching the grandchildren how to build towers out of VHS tapes and playing video games. In his later years, he worked alongside his sonin- law, Ralph Kress for Kress Welding & Fabrication, Inc., retiring after 10 years. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Mae Stratton, step-mother, Sherry (Chaney) Shanks; brothers, Donald Hustad and Danny Lynn; and his step-father, Leonard Hustad. He is survived by his children, Nikita Kress of Vandalia and Kari Hustad of Rawlins, Wyo.; siblings: Lyanna Gable, Dean Shanks, Robert Shanks, Dana Martin and Lisa Albrecht; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services are being planned for later this summer.

Doris Larsen

Doris Schultz Larsen, 90, of Sidney died at her home on Dec. 11, 2022. She was born March 12, 1932, at the family farmhouse in Antelope to Danish immigrants Anton and Helga Doris Sundsted. She grew up on the family farm along with her siblings Erik, Karna and Tony. Her bedstemor (grandmother) also lived with them. Since Danish was the primary language spoken in at home, she found it a challenge when she started elementary school where she had to learn English. She attended high school in Antelope, staying the week in town and returning to the farm on weekends. After graduating from high school, she was encouraged to join her sister at Montana State University in Bozeman. In order to help with expenses, she kept the accounting records for their co-op housing community. She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and business. She would eventually put both degrees to good use by teaching in Sunburst and Sidney and later keeping books for different businesses in Billings and Sidney. She married Arnold Larsen in 1956. They had five children. The family lived in various areas including Bozeman, Sidney, Big Timber and Billings, ultimately returning to Sidney where she resided for the next 47 years. She eventually divorced and returned to school to renew her teaching degree. Being a social person, she engaged in a variety of activities including Sidney Singles,
