The Scobey Spartans overcame a challenging start and defeated Ekalaka, 64-8, in home football action on Friday, Sept. 25. The visiting Bulldogs got off to an 8-0 lead and kept the Spartans scoreless on Scobey’s first two offensive possessions. “Part of it is Ekalaka’s offense is unique. We started out really slow and made some critical mistakes,” Scobey Coach Brock Berryhill said.

The Poplar Indians had some positive moments but fell to Glasgow by an 11-25, 15-25, 14-25, margin during league volleyball play in Poplar on Saturday, Sept. 26. After falling behind by a 5-1 margin in the first set, the Indians pulled to 6-3 on a kill by Quintana Young and an ace by Carsyn Fourbear. A kill by Amaiya Ryan and three straight aces by Alexa Ball led the Scotties to an 11-3 advantage.

Wolf Point’s freshman Cali Gorder ran to firstplace honors during the 19-team Frazer Invitational cross country meet held on Thursday, Sept. 24. Gorder finished with a time of 20:59.5. Younger sister Caydee Gorder, an eighth-grader, earned second place by running the tough course in 21:46.3. Poplar’s girls earned first and Poplar’s boys placed second in the team standings during the Frazer Invitational cross country meet held on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Indians topped the girls’ standings with 45 points followed by Harlem with 64 and Wolf Point with 79 points. The strong team effort included four Poplar runners finishing in the top 12 as Kellyn Azure took fourth at 22:25.2,

Scobey’s boys took third place with 92 points during cross country action in Plentywood on Saturday, Sept. 26. Carter Lekvold led the Spartans by placing 14th with a time of 20:01.9. Scobey’s volleyball team cruised to a straight set conference victory in Nashua on Thursday, Sept. 24. The visiting Spartans won by a 25-2, 25-8, 25-15, final. Scobey gained a quick 5-0 lead in the first set on kills by Halle Cromwell, an ace by Chloe Handran and a kill by Emery Rouse. Three straight aces by Handran increased the gap to 9-0. Another ace by the junior put the margin at 12-0.
