The Culbertson Cowboys opened the District 2C basketball tournament by defeating MonDak, 49-35, in Sidney on Monday, Feb. 13. The Cowboys will face top-seeded Fairview at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. Culbertson never trailed against MonDak and opened the game with a three-pointer by Mo Bighorn. Four points by Colin Avance helped the Cowboys earn a 14-7 lead at the end of the first period.

Bainville’s girls’ basketball team knocked off Richey/ Lambert, 74-48, during the first day of the District 2C tournament in Sidney on Monday, Feb. 13. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and then struck for 23 points in the second period for a 40-16 advantage. Bainville’s largest lead of the game was 26 points. Carolyne Christoffersen, a standout athlete for the Froid/Lake Red Hawks, has signed to compete in track and field for Montana State University in Bozeman. Christoffersen won the championship in the shot put at the Class C state meet last spring. She placed fifth in the event as a sophomore. She will compete in the shot put and discus for the Bobcats.
