The Bainville Bulldogs opened the District 1C volleyball tournament by downing MonDak, 25-12, 25-15, 2511, on Thursday, Oct. 27. A spike by Miah Pippenger and an ace by Kendra Romo helped the Bulldogs earn a 12-6 lead in the first set. Three straight aces by Elsie Wilson increased the gap to 20-9. Bainville Stops Fusion At Tourney


The Bainville Bulldogs edged Richey/Lambert during action at the district volleyball tournament in Plentywood on Friday, Oct. 28. Bainville scored a 25-23, 2520, 25-22, victory. The Bulldogs tied the first set at 18-18 on a kill by Brecklyn Pippenger, but the Fusion moved ahead 21-19. Kills by Miah Pippenger and Elsie Wilson put the Bulldogs ahead. Wayne Peterson

Wayne Peterson


On Oct. 23, 2022, Wayne Peterson, son of Eva Rae and Gordon Peterson of Culbertson, passed away at his home in Butte, Mont., at age 87. He is survived by two sons and a grandson, as well as the families of Wayne’s two brothers, Allen and Gene. An educator throughout his life, Wayne earned his degrees at Minot State in North Dakota and the University of Montana. He began his career as a school teacher and basketball coach in Portal, N.D., where he took his team to the state championships. Then, after teaching in Oregon and Colorado, Wayne returned to Montana, where he eventually retired as a superintendent of schools in Alberton. Settling in Butte later in life, Wayne explored his interest in giving back to others through coaching wheelchair tennis and working with adult literacy projects. Wayne was also a proud patron of education for students in developing countries. His side passions for photography and travel took him around the world, enjoying decades of international experiences. From Munich to Moscow, Toledo to Thailand, Wayne pursued his deep interest in other cultures and the celebration of our shared humanity. Froid/Lake Takes Bulldogs At Tourney


The Froid/Lake Red Hawks fought off Bainville, 27-25, 25-14, 29-27, in a well-played match at the district volleyball tournament in Plentywood on Thursday, Oct. 27. The Red Hawks utilized strong net play by Carolyne Christoffersen and Jaeleigh Davidson to gain a 13-7 advantage in the first set. Bainville stayed close on two spikes by Lila Butikofer and a block by Elsie Wilson. After a perfect
