Students Take Part In County Spelling Bee
Gabe Uy of Frontier Schools came away with top honors from this year’s Roosevelt County spelling bee held in Brockton on Tuesday, March 3.
Uy said his motivation included following in his brother Ernest’s footsteps as a county spelling champion. Ernest earned the title in 2012. Gabe said a sister and another brother also enjoyed success at the county level.

Bainville eighth-grader Eleanor Iversen is the winner of this year’s VFW Patriot’s Pen essay contest for VFW Post 4018. She was honored at the school on Monday, March 2.

Culbertson School Board Candidates Surveyed
There are three candidates for two open positions on the Culbertson School Board. The candidates are incumbents Wendy Becker and Christopher Petersen and newcomer Erin Rhodes. The election is set for Tuesday, May 5, from noon-9 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The deadline to file was February 9.

Culbertson High School senior Leland Pirkle has busy days with commitments at both the school and for his job.
He has been employed at Zane Panasuk’s ranch, off and on, for about four years. His duties include working and feeding the cows.
Pirkle says he hasn’t thought about such a job until his stepdad was approached about Leland working on the ranch.
