Culbertson Loses First-Round Contest


After a promising start, the Culbertson Cowgirls fell to Scobey, 31-26, in the first round of the Eastern C divisional tournament in Sidney on Thursday, March 3. A 12-footer by Alicyn Ator and a free throw by Destiny Thompson put Culbertson ahead 7-4 at the end of the opening quarter. The Froid/Lake Red Hawks overcame slow-down tactics by Plentywood to earn a 48-30 first-round victory at the Eastern C boys’ basketball divisional tournament in Sidney on Wednesday, March 2. The Red Hawks, using a trapping defense, gained a quick 8-0 lead on two baskets by Tyler Wivholm, a steal and drive by Javonne Nesbit and a basket by Brett Stentoft off a pass from Nesbit. The season for Culbertson’s girls’ basketball team came to an end against Circle in loser-out action at the Eastern C divisional tournament in Sidney on Friday, March 4. Circle won the defensive battle by a 29-27 final. The Cowgirls fell behind 14-8 at the half and 20-10 early in the third quarter. Jacie Campbell


Jacie Jo Campbell, four, died Feb. 27, 2022. She was born Jan. 5, 2018, the fifth of six siblings. She had so much life and love yet still to give. She also took on a very special position of being “daddy’s girl.” She loved watching cartoons and playing with her Barbies. She was a very smart girl, often getting called out on it by friends and family. She joined her big brother, Jathyn, in preschool. Together, they were inseparable, always playing, learning and just having fun no matter what. She is survived by her parents, Richard and Sarina Campbell; siblings, Chiilaabee Harlan, Jathyn Thomas, Rylan Cruz, Richard III and Hamyanie Campbell; grandparents, Harvey Sr. (Monica) Campbell; and great-grandparents, Alva Bighorn and Windy Ackerman. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 8, at the Brockton Cultural Center. Interment followed at Fort Kipp Cemetery. Clayton Stevenson Memorial Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
