The Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office responded to 80 calls from Feb. 10-17. Feb. 10 Deputies assisted Culbertson ambulance and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office on a call regarding finding a deceased person across the Missouri River. BNSF confirmed that at approximately 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, that 12 train cars carrying mixed freight derailed near Poplar. There were no injuries reported. Crews worked at the to clear the incident as quickly and safely as possible. The cause of the derailment is under investigation. A deputy from Roosevelt County spotted the derailment. District Judge Benjamin Fosland presided over a series of cases during hearings held in district court on Wednesday, Feb. 12. After admitting to violating conditions of his suspended sentence during a hearing on Jan. 28, a disposition was conducted for John David Panasuk on Wednesday. Probation and parole officer Bruce Barstad recommended that Panasuk should at least be under supervision.
