The Culbertson Town Council held their regular meeting Monday, August 9. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. Todd Gabriel was recommended and approved for appointment to the council. He will be sworn in at the next meeting. Gabriel will fill the seat vacated by Nick Oelkers.

A site/sketch plan was approved for a new fence in town, as was Resolution #495, regarding the disposition of surplus property. An ad listing all items will be published in this paper. Items include a street sweeper and a 2006 F-150.

A resolution was passed approving the donation of a pool pass to Roosevelt Medical Center as an item for their upcoming Over The Moon gala October 19. Bainville’s Russell Riegler was approved for hire pending a background check for a water/wastewater general maintenance worker.

An application was approved for participation in a rural utilities reimbursement program extending financial support to people having trouble paying for their utilities. The program is called the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Health and Human Services. The process is still in the application phase.

During a final budget hearing, an additional $5,600 was approved for new meter reading technology needed to avoid a full system replacement in the near future. The cost for the upgrade will be approximately $26,000.

A work order for WWC Engineering related to the Montana Department of Transportation’s Highway 2 project portion in Culbertson. The amount approved was $47,500 for engineering services related to the project. WWC’s Jeremy Fadness told the council that the timeline for the project has been moved up to a start of date of Spring 2022 with a completion date of early 2023.

A request from Dry Red was partially approved by the council. Funds for an appraisal of the town’s old water treatment plant was approved at approximately $1,000. A request to have the engineering specs for use assessed at coast of $9,500 was not approved.

Minutes were approved for the July 12 meetings, as were treasurer’s reports, journal vouchers, billing vouchers and bills.

The next council meeting is set for Monday, Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
