Gorder To Wrestle For Minot State University

Poplar’s two-time state wrestling champion Jazmin Gorder has signed to compete with Minot State University’s wrestling program.
Gorder said she knew she was going to attend Minot State after a visit to the school late in 2021.
“I had my mind made up. I just didn’t tell anybody,” the senior laughed.
Minot is entering its first season of having a women’s wrestling program.
“I’m really excited,” Gorder said. “They have like six other girls signed too.”
Gorder, who is a state placer in both track and cross country, said it wasn’t an easy decision to make wrestling her college sport.
“After my wrestling season this year, I thought I should do wrestling,” the state champion said.
She will wrestle at 116 pounds in college after competing at 113 pounds in high school.
The Beavers’ list of recruits include Annika Gotlieb of Texas, Shelby Zachmeier of North Dakota, Zoe Desloges of Texas, Carolyn Goebel of North Dakota and Nina Sandoval of Arizona.
The women’s wrestling program will complement a powerhouse men’s wrestling program that has won 16 All-American honors during its time on the mats at Minot State.
The addition of women’s wrestling comes at an amazing time as the NCAA introduced women’s wrestling as an emerging sport in the summer of 2020, putting the sport on pace to earn full championship status.
Gorder, a 4.0 student, said she plans to earn a degree in nursing.
She said she’s thankful to her family and her coaches for their support.
For now, she hopes to have another strong campaign for Poplar’s track program.
“I’ve been running and getting ready for it,” Gorder said.
