Red Hawks Edge Cowgirls In League Volleyball Match
Froid/Lake fought off Culbertson in a five-set conference volleyball battle on Friday, Oct. 13.
The Red Hawks edged the Cowgirls by a 17-25, 26-24, 2514, 24-26, 15-12 final.
After dropping the first set, the Red Hawks scored the last two points of the second set on a spike by Brooklyn Nordwick and a serve by Jaeleigh Davidson for a 26-24 victory.
Ahead by a 16-13 margin in the third set, Froid/Lake increased the margin to 20-13 on a kill by Mara Salvevold and the serving of Alexa Nelson. A tip by B. Nordwick and a kill by Isabelle Nordwick put the lead at 23-13.
After a point by Culbertson, the Red Hawks scored the final two points including one on a kill by Salvevold.
The Cowgirls trailed 19-18 in the fourth set, but the net play of Jazzmin Fugere led Culbertson to a 23-22 lead.
A kill by Salvevold put the Red Hawks up 24-23, but Culbertson struck for the final three points including kills by Leandra Perkins and Destiny Thompson.
The hard hitting of Thompson led the Cowgirls to an 11-8 advantage in the fifth set, but the Red Hawks stayed close on a kill by Salvevold.
A kill by Thompson put Culbertson ahead 12-10, but Froid/Lake struck for the final five points of the fifth set as the serving of I. Nordwick led the way.
