Cowgirls Score Victories At Home Tourney


The Culbertson posted a couple of victories during their home volleyball tournament on Saturday, Aug. 31.
During pool play, the Cowgirls fell against Scobey and then downed Lustre 25-17, 25-12.
The net play of Emma Berwick helped Culbertson gain an 18-11 lead in the first set against Lustre. Leandra Perkins served an ace for a 20-12 advantage. Ivy Colvin added an ace for a 23-13 lead.
Aces by Berwick led Culbertson to a 5-1 start in the second set. Another ace by Perkins and a kill by Mariana Burciaga put the margin at 8-5.
The Cowgirls used an ace by Jazzmin Fugere and a spike by Colvin to gain an 18-10 advantage. Ahead 22-12, Culbertson closed out the match with three strong serves by Perkins.
After defeating Cuilbertson’s JVs, 25-5, 25-15, in the first round of bracket play, the Cowgirls fell short against Savage by a 21-25, 1325, margin.
In the first set, the Cowgirls trailed 21-18 but pulled even on a kill and ace by Fugere along with a kill by Berwick.
The Warriors struck for the final four points of the first set.
Culbertson fell behind 8-1 in the second set. A tip by Fugere and an ace by Perkins closed the gap to 13-6.
The Cowgirls kept battling with a kill by Perkins and an ace by Ayden Ator, but Culbertson lost by a 25-13 final.
