Bulldogs Surprise Brockton Boys


Bainville came back in the fourth quarter for a thrilling 56-54 opening round win over Brockton at the District 2C boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday, Feb. 20.
Trailing by a 50-42 margin entering the final period, the Bulldogs stormed back with the first eight points of the fourth quarter on a drive by Reed Winn, a baseline shot by Rowan Wilson, a 16-footer by Parker Berwick and a baseline jumper by Kaiden Holmes for a 50-50 deadlock with 3:25 remaining.
After both teams missed scoring opportunities, the Warriors moved back ahead when Miles Boxer Jr. hit a pair of free throws with 1:24 left. The Bulldogs pulled even on a drive by Isaiah Bjorge, but a basket by Josh Firemoon put Brockton up 54-52 with only 27 seconds to play.
Bainville tied the contest on a pair of free throws by Holmes with 16 seconds left. Wison then came up with a steal and drive for a 56-54 advantage with only nine seconds remaining.
Brockton missed on a final three-point shot attempt.
Reaching double figures for the Bulldogs were Holmes with 17, Bjorge with 13 and Wilson with 12 points.
Also scoring were Berwick with eight and Winn with six points.
Berwick grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory. Holmes and Bjorge each had 10 rebounds.
Jarid Fast Horse and Firemoon finished with 13 points each to lead the Warriors.
Also scoring for the Warriors were Kameron Rattling Thunder with eight, Boxer with six, Quannah First That Walks with five, Colter Nygard with five and Tefton Bear with four points.
Nygard had nine rebounds. Bainville led by a 16-10 margin at the end of the opening quarter, but the hot shooting of Brockton’s Fast Horse highlighted the action in the second quarter. Brockton led 37-27 at the half.
