Granley Faces Assault On Peace Officer Charge

The charges against Tyler Shane Granley have been amended in district court.

Granley faces the counts of assault on a peace officer including bodily injury, a felony; resisting arrest, a misdemeanor; and obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor.

Granley is accused of kicking a Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Deputy during an incident on Aug. 8, 2024.

If convicted of the felony, Granley faces a fine not to exceed $50,000 and a term of imprisonment of not less than two years or more than 10 years.

According to court documents, Granley allegedly confronted his brother and threatened to kill him and other family members. With the help of family members, a deputy located the defendant outside an old trailer house. The defendant eventually came out of the trailer and walked to within 50 feet of the deputy where a panel gate remained between them. After the defendant made several angry statements about family members, he turned away from the deputy, who then stepped inside the panel gate.

When the deputy started to pat the defendant down for weapons and then attempted to stand the defendant up, the defendant got angry and started yelling and rolling onto his back. The defendant then kicked the deputy in the groin, causing immediate and severe pain. The deputy rolled him back over onto his stomach and laid on top of him to try to get the defendant to calm down.

When in a holding cell in Wolf Point, the defendant continued to behave belligerently until it was decided for his safety to place him in the padded cell.
