Lustre Loses To Scobey In Loser-out Game
Lustre’s boys’ basketball team had its season end against rival Scobey, 70-52, during loser-out action at the Class C state tournament in Butte on Saturday, March 15.
After a 16-16 deadlock at the end of the first quarter, the Lions struck for six straight points on four points by Diek Olfert and a basket off a rebound by senior Byron Ewing to take a 25-20 advantage.
Scobey responded with the next eight points on a basket by Reese Tande and three-pointers by Bram Handran and John Carney.
Hoops by Ewing and Prestyn Klatt kept the Lions close as Lustre trailed by just a 3229 half-time margin.
The Spartans, however, opened the third quarter with the first seven points including a three-pointer by Kolten Machart to increase the gap to 39-29.
Three-pointers by Klatt and Olfert were highlights of the quarter for the Lions, but Scobey tallied the last seven points of the period on two drives by Machart and a three-pointer by Cooper Axtman.
Johnslee Pierre attempted to bring the Lions back with five points early in the fourth quarter to close the margin to 54-43. Scobey then accounted for the next five points for a 59-43 margin.
Two three-pointers by Clay Reddig pulled the Lions to 63-49 with 2:52 left, but the Spartans scored the next seven points.
Lustre’s top scorers were Pierre with 13 and Ewing with 10 points.
Also scoring were Clay Reddig with eight, Klatt with eight, Olfert with seven, Cam Reddig with three and Kayden Charette with three.
Leading Scobey were Handran with 26, Axtman with 20 and Carney with 13 points.
