Librarian Sought In Culbertson

The Roosevelt County Library Board held its regular meeting March 8 at the Main Branch in Wolf Point. In attendance were Joyce Harvey, board chair; Gretchen Wagner, trustee; Helen Welte, trustee; Vernie Madison, vice chair; Clyta Dillon, trustee and Janet Livingston, director. Guests included Tracy Cook, Montana Statewide Consulting Librarian; Emma Pederson, Culbertson Library and Cheyenne Heller with the Froid Library.

The meeting started out with three hours of training, with Tracy Cook leading the training and conversation. The main topic was the Strategic Plan for the future.

Cook brought up the board’s by-laws and said she thought they were excellent. Also discussed were expectations and recruitment. Livingston was asked to check with the Roosevelt County Commissioners on board appointments.

Another question was brought up regarding library cards from Wolf Point, Poplar, Culbertson and Froid and whether any of them could be used in any of the other libraries. The matter was tabled for more information.

Immediately following the training, the regular meeting was convened. The minutes of the Jan. 18 meeting were perused and approved.

The statement of accounts was reviewed. The main expenditure listed was on new computers for the Froid Library. The cell phone policy was read aloud. There were no additions or corrections.

The programming policy was also reviewed and approved with just a couple of additions requested.

Ads in the Culbertson newspaper and Job Service website for a librarian for the Culbertson Library. One application has been received and there is an interview scheduled. Assistant librarian Emma Petersen is still doing inventory in Culbertson. Story hour will end in April. The Culbertson Women’s Club will be sponsoring a Pie Social in April. Planning is underway for that event. The Lego Guy will be doing a program in July. The summer reading program will be in June and July.

Heller reported that she is also still doing inventory. She said she is thinking about a “Blind Date with a Book” activity. Ideas and thoughts about restarting a “story time” was also discussed. The Lego Guy will also be at the Froid Library.

At the Main, attendance at the Playtime Pals program has been increasing and a janitor is needed.

The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 3 in Culbertson beginning at 10 a.m.
