James Wilcoxon
James Dale 'Jim' Wilcoxon, 81, died March 22, 2025, in Scobey.
Born on Sept. 2, 1943, in Scobey to Ross and Alix Wilcoxon, he spent his life deeply connected to the land that shaped him. A graduate of Scobey High School, he dedicated himself to farming, taking over the family farm after the death of his father. With a steady commitment, he worked the land and cared for his cattle daily, preserving a cherished legacy that spanned generations.
He was a man of few words, yet, when he chose to speak, everyone listened attentively. His word was his bond. His tales often wove together characters entwined in misfortune, yet bringing forth hilarious conclusions.
Beyond the farm, he found exhilaration in adventure. He had a passion for flying and embraced the thrill of snowmobiling, boating, jet skiing and riding side-byside across the Montana and Arizona landscapes. These pursuits reflected his love for freedom and nature — and fun — qualities that defined his spirit. Never lost, yet often choosing the path less traveled, he would glance back with a twinkle in his eye and proclaim, “There are tracks behind me — it must be a road!”
He is survived by his wife Kathy Wilcoxon; daughters, Nixie Gagne and Jamie Green; sisters, Diane Bekker and Eileen Sain; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held June 21.
