Shortened Season Planned
Wolf Point Youth Sports opened the 2020 summer season in Culbertson Tuesday, June 2, and hosted several games on the ballfields at Borge Community Park Tuesday, June 9, after the Northern Plains Independent went to press.
Pee wee teams will play at Borge Community Park with boys Thursday, June 11 and girls Monday, June 15.
No other games will be played at home.
The 2020 summer seasons for the annual youth programs were shrouded in uncertainty due to restrictions and safety concerns wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The seasons are shorter than in previous years with about four weeks on the schedules and only one night of home games, which were played earlier this week. All teams from pee wee through major [fast pitch softball for girls ages 13 through high school] are playing more travel games. Distancing and safety rules during games and practices are enforced.
The Lady Jackets’ major program is starting its third season as a travel fast pitch softball team. The Lady Jackets won the Hi-Line championship in 2018.
Lawrence Hamilton is returning as coach and many of the players are returning.
The minor program for ages eight to 12 offers baseball for boys and slow pitch softball for girls. Cody Larson, the city’s baseball and softball director, coaches the softball team.
