Dethman To Play For Fresno State University

Community News Staff It’s a rare feat for a basketball player from northeastern Montana to be heading to a Division I collegiate program. One of those accomplishments is happening as Froid/Lake standout Sydney Dethman has agreed to play at Fresno State University in California.

“I just liked the staff and everything was family oriented,” Dethman said. “They’ve had good seasons in the past few years.”

The Bulldogs finished with a 25-7 overall record and a 16-2 league mark last season.

She said her decision came down to four or five Division I schools from outside the state.

“I feel like I could do well there,” Dethman said. “It’s a good fit.”

Dethman has earned All-State honors in each of the last two seasons for the Froid/Lake Red Hawks. She has played at two Class C state basketball tournaments.

She’s hoping that conditions allow her to play for the Northwest Blazers, based out of Washington state, at a tournament in Boise, Idaho, during July 31-Aug. 2. There’s only a couple other Montana players on that all-star squad.

Dethman is looking forward to her senior season playing for the Froid/Lake Red Hawks.

“I think we will be a tough team,” she said.
