No Attorney Decision Yet From Culbertson Town Council No Attorney Decision Yet From Culbertson Town Council

Community News Staff For the second straight month, the Culbertson Town Council tabled a decision to select the town's attorney at their Aug. 10 meeting.

Last month, regarding requests of proposals for attorney services, Culbertson received a request of $300 per hour from Greg Hennessy and $275 per hour from Christoffersen and Knierim.

In the information received from Hennessy, he noted that he's driven more than 42,000 miles for council meetings regardless of the weather since becoming the city attorney in 1979.

Council member Mark Nelson made a motion to hire Christoffersen and Knierim because he feels it’s important to have someone from the community to serve in that position. Council member Dave Solem seconded the motion.

Council members Nick Oelkers and Abe Rumsey noted Hennessy's experience in the role and voted against the motion. The motion by Nelson failed to pass by a 2-2 margin. Mayor Larry Crowder continued his policy of not breaking ties when the council is evenly split.

The town council agreed to continue considering the matter and to make a decision at next month's meeting.
