Whitmus Receives Overall Grand Champion Status At Roosevelt County Fair

Community News Staff The early mornings and hard work paid off for Tiara Whitmus at the Roosevelt County Fair this year.

Whitmus of Wolf Point didn't only earn grand champion honors with her steer but also received overall grand champion status.

“It takes a lot of hard work and determination to get where you want to be,” the daughter of Jeff and Donna Whitmus said.

Tiara, who is employed at Neubauer Tree Farm, would tend to each of her animals before heading to the job. “You need to get out there every day to get to know your animals,” she explained.

Her sheep placed third overall and won grand champion showmanship at this year's fair. Her pig earned a blue ribbon and reserve champion showmanship.

“I've done animals for 11 years and I jackpot during the summer,” she said. Jackpot competitions this summer included ones in Circle and Lewistown.

Whitmus' grand champion steer, Buddy, had a beginning weight of 705 pounds and ending weight of 1,262 pounds. Breeder was B& K Livestock of Moccasin. There were 230 days on feed.

“I like him a lot,” Tiara said. “He's a really good steer.”

Tiara has a strong history of success with all types of animals at the Roosevelt County Fair.

“I get overall about every year,” she explained.

Her older brother, Quinn, and older sister, Trinity, also captured grand champion honors during their years involved in 4-H. “I try to show every year and get the Wolf Point community to come out,” Tiara said of the county fair. “Like anything else, you get better the more you do it.”

Tiara, who is entering her senior year at Lustre Christian High School, is active in volleyball, basketball and track.

She hopes to continue showing when she attends college.

“It's my passion,” she explained. Tiara plans to study to become a veterinarian.
