The Valley County Long Run Fire Department announced Aug. 24 that the Hill Fire was largely contained as of Sunday. The fire was located west of the Pines Recreation Area on Bureau of Land Management land in Valley County. The total size of the fire was 3,266.5 acres. Long Run was called to a grass fire east of Glasgow Aug. 21. While finishing up on the first call, Roosevelt County requested mutual aid to another grass fire in the Oswego area. While crews responded to the Oswego fire, they were called out to another fire south of the Pines near Hill Ranch Road. The latter fires were suppressed and contained at press time. BLM is reporting there are 98 people assigned to the Hill Fire with containment at 68 percent. Tanker aircraft were also brought in to assist.
