With many starters returning from last year’s squad, the Wolf Point Wolves should be a force this volleyball season.

Starters back for the Wolves include Jewell Olson, Mikaya Smoker-Dewitt, Demi Kegley, Hailey Nelson, Sarah Williamson and Kaitlin MacDonald.

“It’s a good returning group,” Wolf Point coach Kim Hanks said. “Jewell Olson has worked hard in the offseason in the weight room. She has put a lot of time in.”

Hanks said another team strength is that Kegley and Nelson make for a strong back-court combination.

“The outside hitters are coming along,” Hanks added. “They are finding their way.”

The veteran coach is pleased with the turnout of 35 girls in the program.

“We have a very strong freshman class,” Hanks said. “One of the freshmen is already on the varsity and some others are on the JV.”

Sierra Hamilton, a 5-8 freshman, is expected to help Wolf Point’s attack at the varsity level.

Hanks expects Glasgow and Malta to be the league favorites heading into the season. “We have stiff competition. I think Poplar has been working hard too,” the coach noted.

The Wolves will open their season at home against non-conference foe Circle on Saturday, Aug. 29.

“I want the girls to play to the top of their potential,” Hanks said of her goal for the season. “I want them to improve every match.”
