Froid/Lake controlled action from the start as the Red Hawks downed Savage, 25-11, 25-12, 25-18, in Savage on Thursday night, Sept. 3.

“I was happy with the performance,” Froid/Lake coach Kiah Smith said. “It's still early in the season and we have a lot to do.”

Smith felt the passing and hitting by sophomore Aleah Johnson was one of the match's highlights.

Froid/Lake accounted for the match's first six points on the serving of Kinsey Rasmussen and net play of Johnson.

After the Warriors scored their first point, the Red Hawks struck for the next five on aces by Johnson and a block by Sydney Dethman.

A kill by freshman Karley McPherson pulled the Warriors to 12-5, but the strong net play of Dasani Nesbit and Carolyne Christoffersen led Froid/Lake to a 19-6 advantage. Three aces by Nesbit increased the margin to 23-7.

After a spike by Teah Conradsen and an ace by Taryn Hagler cut the gap to 24-11, Froid/Lake ended the first game on a kill by Dethman.

The net play of Alexia Papka helped Savage stay close early in the second set, but the Red Hawks gained a 15-9 lead on kills by Nesbit and Christoffersen. The margin became 18-10 on kills by Johnson and Dethman.

An ace by Papka pulled the Warriors to 18-12. Froid/Lake accounted for the last seven points of the set highlighted with net winners by Dethman.

The serving of Dethman, a 6-2 senior, led the Red Hawks to an 11-5 advantage in the third game. The serving of Papka brought Savage back to 11-11.

Froid/Lake responded with the next six points on kills by Christoffersen, Nesbit and Dethman along with an ace by Meg Ator.

Ahead by a 21-17 margin, the Red Hawks scored four of the last five points on two net winners by Dethman, an ace by Johnson and a kill by Christoffersen.

The Red Hawks opened the week with a tough 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, 8-25, loss against Plentywood.

Dethman finished with 12 kills and 11 digs against Plentywood. Baylee Davidson had 10 assists.

Nesbit accounted for nine kills and 10 digs. Christoffersen served two aces.

The Red Hawks will travel to Fairview on Thursday, Sept. 10.
