Poplar Indians Fall To Harlem In Football Action Friday
After a close first half, the Poplar Indians football team struggled with injuries during the second half and lost by a 42-26 final in Harlem on Friday night, Sept. 4.
The Indians trailed only 14-8 at the half, but Harlem accounted for two touchdowns in the third quarter to grab a 28-8 advantage.
“We just gave up the big plays at the wrong times,” Poplar coach Joe Hammer said. “They had some big plays on offense and had some big runs.”
Poplar's Tyler Pribbernow made touchdown passes to Wilfred Lambert and Adrien Matuck. Scoring on runs were Pribbernow and Logan Boadle.
Leading Poplar's offensive attack was Boadle with 196 rushing yards. “He really played well,” Hammer said. Two of the team's quarterbacks were injured in the game.
The Indians finished with 217 rushing yards and 124 passing yards. The Indians averaged 5.4 yards per rushing attempt.
“We just have to get in better condition and play as a team,” Hammer said.
The coach noted that Pribbernow and Matuck each enjoyed solid games.
Poplar will have its home opener against Roundup at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11.
“They are probably our best matched competition in the conference,” Hammer said.
