Assault Video Shared On Social Media Raises Law Enforcement Concerns
Warrant Requested For Assault Suspect
A video shared on social media of an altercation between two females on the 400 block of Blaine Street at 6:08 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, has raised concerns about law enforcement’s “slow” response to the incident.
The video shows a 36-yearold female victim laying on the street, and the 39-year-old female assault suspect with her naked butt visible standing nearby. Neither woman has been identified publicly by law enforcement.
While the Wolf Point Police Department was unable to respond immediately due to other calls, the situation was deescalated when officers arrived.
Mayor Speaks Out
Wolf Point Mayor Chris Dschaak responded with a timeline of Wolf Point Police Department calls during a one-hour time period starting just prior to that assault, illustrating just how busy local law enforcement is:
•17:45 - Assault.
•18:06 - Suicide.
•18:08 - Assault (made famous on social media).
•18:12 - Vandalism.
•18:15 - Public intoxication.
•18:27 - Vandalism.
•18:51 - Assist EMS.
•18:55 - Panhandling.
•18:58 - Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
“Along with these calls, there was another public high speed chase, a serious motor vehicle accident, plus the Wolf Point Police responded to 30 911 calls in 16 hours, starting at 8 a.m. yesterday morning,” reported Dschaak.
“Along with these stats, the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department has responded to 20-plus calls in the past 10 days, many of them suspicious or careless in nature,” Dschaak continued in a social media post on Aug. 26.
“I am appalled and concerned by this behavior. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a simple answer to fix the problems we are having. What I do know is that this isn’t a complete law enforcement issue. I’m not implying that they cant be a part of the solution, but I believe that they would offer a small part. This is, and will continue to be, a community issue. This is an issue concerning the education of our children, ensuring they are striving to make a better life for them and their families. It’s a community pride issue, with everyone wanting to have clean and safe streets and parks, as well as taking care of our own personal properties and homes. And it’s a personal issue, in which we all take the responsibility for ourselves, and help our families, no matter how big, make healthy choices with their lives.
“Lastly, this isn’t a our/ their issue. These issues concern every single person in our community. We all need to be the solution. That’s the only way we can achieve the success we need,” Dschaak said.
