County Board Of Health Issues Directive Canceling Sporting Activities On West End Of County

Wolf Point, Poplar and Brockton are not allowed to have sporting events for the next two weeks based on a ruling from the Roosevelt County Board of Health. The decision came based on the increased of active virus cases in the county.

“From an activities standpoint for fall sports, we’re in crunch time now,” Wolf Point’s athletic director Cody Larson said. “Personally, I would hate for activities to go away. It’s our homecoming week and we want to make it as enjoyable for everyone.”

He said that football games might be done for the season because of the two-week time period.

Larson will work on rescheduling volleyball matches.

“We will make sure our conference games are being taken care of,” Larson noted.

He noted that active cases are low in the school district.

“We’re obviously doing our part,” Larson said. “I just think the kids need the games.”

Wolf Point football coach Ryan Wilson said it’s been tough on the players to have been practicing for seven weeks and being able to play in only two games.

Culbertson superintendent of schools Larry Crowder said there was a conference call involving school officials and health officials late Monday afternoon, Sept. 28.

“I think we made some headway for the schools on the eastern side of the county,” Crowder said.

He notes that none of Culbertson’s high school athletes or coaches have tested positive for the virus.

The ruling allows for Culbertson, Froid/Lake and Bainville to continue having athletic contests at this point. The schools were issued an exception because of few active cases.

Monday, Sept. 28, Brockton School announced the cancellation of the remainder of the junior high fall sports season and the varsity cross country season is on hold for the next two weeks.
