Culbertson Drops Home Match
The Culbertson Cowgirls put together a solid match but lost to a strong North Country squad at home on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26.
Culbertson fell by a 17-25, 18-25, 14-25, margin.
Aces by Jaycee Erickson and Kia Wasson led the Mavericks to a 14-6 advantage in the first set. The Cowgirls got a point closer on a winning hit by Kenadee Kempton.
Two kills by senior Kylie Portra pulled the Cowgirls to 17-10, but kills by Kia Wasson helped North Country gain a 22-12 lead. A block and ace by Makena Hauge got Culbertson as close as 24-16 before North Country won by the 25-17 final.
Aces by McKinsey Justice led the Cowgirls to a 6-4 lead in the second set, but the Mavericks moved ahead 20-12.
Hard serves by Anissa Bengochea and Hauge brought the Cowgirls back to 22-17, but North Country won the second set by a 25-18 margin.
An ace by Justice cut North Country’s lead to 8-6 in the third set, but the Mavericks then earned a 17-11 advantage. Culbertson scored on a spike by Portra for a 17-12 margin. North Country tallied the next five points en route to a 25-14 win in the third set.
Culbertson’s Hauge finished with three aces, three kils, two blocks and seven digs. Justice accounted for four aces, two kills and five digs.
Portra scored seven kills. Cody Larsen had 10 digs. Koree Marchwick finished with six assists and five digs. Kempton added one assist and 10 digs. Jaydyn Erickson accounted for 12 kills to lead North Country. Wasson had 10 kills, one ace and five digs.
