Ken Forbregd told the Northern Plains Independent that a vehicle drove through orange construction cones at the Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Trail project in Culbertson Oct. 26.

A social media post from the group’s Facebook page states: “Someone decided to drive around our orange cones off of Highway 2 either last night or early this morning! They proceeded down the hill, drove on the walking trail and then exited the property by the bridge.”

Forbregd said that the culprits aren’t guilty of much beyond entering the site from the wrong side. “They didn’t do any damage,” said Forbregd. “They just drove through.”

Forbregd added that barriers have been established at Highway 2 to prevent a repeat performance.

The walking trail portion of the project is officially open to the public at press time on Oct. 27.

“Ike’s Fishing Pond and Walking Trail is now open to the public,” said an Oct. 26 social media post. “Feel free to access the park through the parking lot from 4th street West. Walk-in only. Highway 2 is not an access to Ike’s. Thanks for your cooperation.”

Another post from the same day warned about unattended children at the site: “As Ike’s Pond is being filled with water, we want to express our concerns about children playing close to the pond. Please remind your child (children) of the dangers of the water and thin ice. The best way to do this is to keep everyone away from the pond shoreline as it is being filled.”
