Mavericks Down Froid/Lake Girls

Froid/Lake’s volleyball season came to an end when the Red Hawks lost to North Country in five sets on Friday, Nov. 6. The final score was 15-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-22, 13-15.

After dropping the first two sets, Froid/Lake took the lead in the third set as a kill by Sydney Dethman and two aces by Aleah Johnson produced a 13-10 lead. Kills by Carolyne Christoffersen and Dasani Nesbit increased the gap to 17-11.

The Red Hawks used a back-row kill by Dethman, a kill by Nesbit and an ace by Baylee Davidson to grab a 20-13 advantage.

Ahead 23-15, the Red Hawks scored on an ace by Christoffersen to put the game away.

In the fourth set, the Red Hawks battled back to a 10-10 deadlock on kills by Dethman and Johnson.

The net play of Nesbit put the Red Hawks ahead 18-16. A kill by Johnson and an ace by Nesbit increased the margin to 20-17.

The Red Hawks increased their advantage to 24-20 on three kills by Dethman. Froid/ Lake went on to win the set by a 25-22 final.

In the fifth and deciding set, the serving of Kinsey Rasmussen and net play of Dethman led the way to an 8-4 advantage.

After North County fought back, the Red Hawks’ Nesbit scored a kill for an 11-7 lead. The Mavericks ran off the next seven points to earn a 14-11 lead.

The Red Hawks stayed alive with two kills by Dethman, but North Country then scored to take the match.

Plentywood earned the divisional tournament championship. Fairview defeated Circle for second place. Plentywood and Fairview will represent the Eastern C at the Class C state tournament starting Thursday, Nov. 12, in Malta.
