ASRWSS, Dry Prairie Reach Milestone
Public Law 106-382 authorized the construction of the Fort Peck Reservation Rural Water System, which is comprised of the Assiniboine Sioux Rural Water Supply System and the Dry Prairie Rural Water system.
The law was signed in 2000. Twenty years later, the date is a milestone marking the initial flow of federal funding for construction of the project. Initial federal funding amounts of approximately $500,000 were sometimes too low to get much accomplished, according to a recent post on the Dry Prairie Facebook page. Recent years have seen a huge upswing in appropriations. In 2020, $31.5 million was appropriated and 2021 looks to be approximately the same. Said the post, construction on the water system is slated to be completed in the next 2-3 years.
