RMC Comfort And Joy Project Kicks Off Nov. 23
It’s been a tough year. Like many, Roosevelt Medical Center has faced its own challenges in response to COVID-19. But, as the holidays inch closer, so do the feelings of comfort and joy. On Monday, Nov. 23, RMC will kick off its sixth annual Comfort & Joy Project, an effort to raise funds to buy items that enhance the lives of the residents who call RMC home.
Music. Conversation. Movies. You name it. We use our ears to engage with so much. As we age, many people experience natural hearing loss. This can lead to a sense of isolation and disengagement. This year the project is focused on bringing the social engagement technology of Eversound to every resident.
This technology will provide more than 200 television programming options and senior focused activities they can enjoy from the comfort of their room, or while in the company of others. It will also enhance communication during family visits through wireless headsets that enable residents to hear, even while social distancing.
Through the project, participants can honor or memorialize loved ones through varying gift options, while also sending in heartfelt cards for the residents to read and enjoy.
Officials wanted to create a feelgood project that had the potential to bring comfort to the residents all year long. The holidays are a time for cherishing loved ones who are with us and who have passed and creating joy in the lives of others. This project celebrates those emotions while enhancing the lives of our community’s aged population for the better.
Every $100 raised this year for the project will provide two weeks of programming for every resident. The names of those being honored or memorialized will be placed on cards that will hang next to their designated ornament or lighted bulb on two trees that will be displayed in the lobby of RMC and the post office.
RMC is also asking donors to take the time to fill out a holiday card with a message for the residents to enjoy, some of whom may not see their families during the holidays. Each heartfelt greeting will be displayed in a special area where every resident can enjoy them.
Since the project began in 2015, over $16,000 has been raised to purchase items such as a fireplace, televisions, wall art, couches, reclining chairs, and bedside tables.
If you would like to participate in the Comfort & Joy Project, brochures will be available in the lobby at RMC or the post office beginning Nov. 23.
