Bainville Dollars For Scholars Host Bazaar
With about 20 tables occupied, the Bainville Dollars for Scholars committee held another successful bazaar on Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5.
“We do this every year,” Lindsay Winn, president of the organization, said. “We’re earning money for our graduates for college.”
One change that took place because of COVID was the group didn’t serve its traditionally outstanding soups and pies. Winn explained the silent auction usually brings in a good amount of money. The bazaar raises between $1,000 to $1,500 each year. Vendors came from Bainville; Froid; Williston, N.D.; and, Dickinson, N.D.
The goal is to present $1,000 scholarships to each Bainville graduate who applies. To be eligible, students must maintain at least a 3.25 grade point average and write an essay.
The total presented in a year usually ranges from $5,000 to $14,000. This is the program’s 23rd year.
“It’s an awesome program,” Winn said.
Other fundraising activities include a spring fling for adults in the fire hall, a dance and dinner for adults and a community breakfast during the summer.
Letters are also mailed to area businesses requesting donations. That process usually raises about $5,000.
“It benefits the kids,” Winn said of Dollars for Scholars.
