Culbertson Competes At Speech Meet
Eight members of the Culbertson speech and drama team competed at its third virtual meet of the season on Saturday, Dec. 19.
There were a total of 40 Class B/C schools with 205 entries and 249 competitors. A total of 148 judges volunteered for the meet. The virtual platform has created a serious decrease in the number of students who are competing because it’s a challenge to perform to a camera and mic with no physical audience or competitors to interact with.
Placing for Culbertson were Trevor Green in fifth place for informative, Eric Chilson in sixth for informative, Zach Miller in fifth for memorized public address and Elise RattlingThunder in ninth for MPA.
Also placing were Joseph McCary in 10th for informative, Colby Olson in 11th for dramatic solo, Nyreece Halvorson in 12th for humorous oral interpretation and Morgan Lucas made her first appearance in MPA this week.
The coaches expressed their appreciation to judging volunteers for putting in another long day of judging. Without being able to provide judges and meeting our judge’s bond, students wouldn’t be allowed to compete. Mike Olson, Russell Pfiefer, Paula Dehner, Carla Azure, Phyllis Owan, Michaela Cathey, Wendy Becker and Leila Seyfert covered 13 sections of judging this week.
The next virtual meet will find Culbertson competing in the Three Forks Invitational on Jan. 9.
