Red Hawks Look To Contend During Boys’ Basketball Season
The Froid/Lake boys’ basketball squad returns four starters from a season ago and should be one of the top teams in the Eastern C this year.
Returning starters for the Red Hawks include 6-2 senior Colt Miller, senior Bode Miller, junior Javonne Nesbit and senior Issac Johnson.
Colt Miller and Nesbit were each All-State selections last season. Bode Miller earned All-Conference honors.
Tyler Wivholm, a senior, and Mason Dethman, a freshman, also saw a good amount of court time last season. Wivholm was voted to the All-Conference Defense Second Team.
Other players with good amount of varsity experience include senior Walker Ator, junior Brett Stentoft and junior Ashdyn Hobbs.
Coach Josh Stentoft said depth is certainly one of the squad’s strengths.
“We have a lot of kids who can play,” the coach noted.
Physical strength is also an improvement after many players spent a good amount of time in the weight room under assistant football coach Jalen Henrickson.
“We’re starting to get a lot of experience,” Coach Stentoft said. “A lot of kids have good experience as they played as eighth-graders or freshmen.”
He added a lot of the boys have played together since the second grade.
Height is a plus with Colt Miller at 6-2, Nesbit at 6-3, Dethman at 6-4 and Wivholm at 6-2.
An addition to the program is having Chase White is another assistant coach in addition to Bryan Jacklitch.
Last season, the Red Hawks fell short in a tough game against Scobey in the semi-final round of the divisional tournament. Froid/Lake lost by three points against Dodson in the third-place game.
Stentoft sees Scobey as the top team in the division. He expects Fairview and Mon-Dak to be strong contenders for the district title.
“Our goal is to play every game like it’s our last game,” Coach Stentoft said.
The Red Hawks will open their season in Culbertson on Saturday, Jan. 2.
