Culbertson High School senior Faith Bowland is looking forward to a future that will include working with animals.
Basketball has been her favorite activity throughout her school days. She earned All-Conference second team honors as a junior.
“Basketball is very competitive,” Bowland said.
She said her parents were basketball players so she followed the tradition. She started playing the sport when she was in kindergarten.
“I’ve just grown up around sports,” Bowland said.
In high school, she was on the volleyball team for one year. She has enjoyed playing softball for the past five summers.
“It’s the joy of playing with teammates,” Bowland said of why she likes softball. “It’s fun having an outside of school sport.”
Because of a shoulder injury, she was unable to play basketball this season. She might try to compete at the intramural level in college.
“I love basketball, but I’ve kind of grown to become an animal veterinarian,” she noted. Her goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree at Montana State University in Bozeman and then further study at Washington State College in Pullman, Wash.
“I’ve grew up around animals,” Bowland said of living on a farm. “I love and enjoy being around animals.”
Her favorite class in Culbertson is science. “I like the science experiments and learning how to solve problems. It’s entertaining and breath taking,” Bowland said.
Her favorite teacher is Paula Schledewitz.
“She’s very hands-on and teaches very well,” Bowland said. “She wants to help everybody.”
Bowland appreciates her experiences in Culbertson. “It’s a very loving community,” she said.
