Wolf Point Wrestlers Battle During Action Against Teams

Wolf Point’s wrestlers competed against opponents from Sidney, Poplar and Broadus during action in Sidney on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Joli Beston lost both her matches. “He got a little more aggressive today,” Vandall said. “We’re happy with what she was trying to do.”
Xavier Kemp wrestled two tough opponents from Sidney and lost both matches. “Xavier lost these matches, but these were two top ranked kids in Class A. So it’s a battle with kids they have some good stuff,” Vandall noted.
Jordan Davis lost two matches against a pair of Broadus wrestlers. “Jordan is hanging in their. He lost the match but is gaining valuable mat time. He’s starting to get his weight down and that’s taking a small toll on him. But we very pleased with his efforts,” Vandall said.
Josh Bushman dropped both his matches. “He wrestled our friends from Broadus and a top ranked kid from Sidney,” Vandall said. “Josh is getting there. He’s just making some small mistakes that cost him more.”
Mason Garfield went 1-1 today. He beat a wrestler from Broadus and lost to a top-ranked kid from Sidney. “Mason wrestled well against the Sidney kid. It wasn’t a bad match,” Vandall said.
Chance Smith went 1-1 on Saturday. He beat a Broadus wrestler and lost to a Poplar opponent. “Chance is improving. He is pretty salty on his feet,” Vandall said. “He does well there. He just gave up too much weight against the Poplar kid.”
Charlie page was 0-1 on the day. “Charlie lost to a Poplar kid. He did a good job, he tried a couple thing today that went against him. I don’t mind that though. He went out and battles hard, that’s all we ask.”
“Match win-loses weren’t where we wanted. We had some good mat time. Sidney has a loaded team,” Vandall said. “We’re getting there. We’re close right now, just need to work and clean up some things and we will be fine.”

Samantha Reed wrestled a two-time state champion from Circle. “She did OK, she stopped one shot. I was happy with the effort,” Vandall said.
Xavier Kemp split his matches against two Chinook wrestlers. “Xavier had some good scrambles,” Vandall said. “He worked hard and made some progress. I Was happy with what we saw.”
Jolie Beston lost to a Circle wrestler and won against a Chinook wrestler. “Joli is turning a corner in the practice room, she is starting to get aggressive. We will keep working with her,” Vandall said.
Jordon Davis lost matches against teammates Mason Garfield and Josh Bushman. “It’s been hard on Jordan, he has to wrestle kids from home and the practice room,” Vandall said. “He’s getting his weight down and we are making strides.”
Josh Bushman wrestled well. He lost to a Broadus wrestler and got a win against his teammate. “Josh is coming along well, we will keep working,” Vandall said.
Mason Garfield won his first match against a tough wrestler from Broadus and against his teammate Jordan Clark. “Mason just got his first two matches of the year. He had some rust on him but got it knocked off,” Vandall noted.
Charlie Page wrestled a wrestler from Chinook twice. “We lost both, but we had the kid reeling twice,” Vandall said. “Right now, it’s about confidence for Charlie and he’s gaining confidence.”
Chance Smith won his one match to a wrestler from Broadus again. “Chance is coming along good,” Vandall said. “He always has a new throw to show us.”
