Wolf Point Wrestlers Compete In Poplar Wolf Point Wrestlers Compete In Poplar

The Wolf Point wrestling team competed in Poplar on Friday, Feb. 12.

Samantha Reed went 1-1 on the day. She lost to Poplar’s Cameron Reum and won against a girl from Harlem. “We won the match we wanted,” Wolf Point Coach Scott Vandall said. “Samantha did a great job that match with the Harlem girl. She controlled the match well.”

Joli Beston went 1-1 on the day. Beston lost to Mitchell Youngman of Poplar. She beat a boy from Harlem. “Joli got fired up at the end of the first round and put some hurt on him,” Vandall said. “He didn’t want any more of her starting the second round.”

Xavier Kemp went 0-2 on the day. He wrestled a Harlem boy. He gave up some weight to and lost to Cameron Reum. “He did wrestle well on the top. He is coming along,” Vandall said. “We will polish up a couple things and get ready for divisionals.”

Josh Bushman went 1-1. He had two opponents from Harlem. “He wrestled a full six-minute match. It was good for him. He got a cut lip that match and we use up almost four of our five minute blood time,” Vandall said. “He can back and got the win. That was a big win for Josh.”

Jordan Davis went 0-2. “Jordan did well, he is giving up a lot of weight,” Vandall said. ”I’m proud of him as I am with all the kids, they come to battle.”

Chance Smith went 0-2. He lost to a Poplar opponent and a Harlem wrestler. “He did well. He tried to throw one and almost got it,” Vandall said. “I’m happy with his efforts.”

Charlie Page didn’t wrestled that meet. “He is a bit sore from last weekend so we kept him out,” Vandall said. “There’s no reason to risk a injury this close to divisionals.”

Mason Garfield went 2-0. He beat two Harlem wrestlers. “Mason did a good job. There’s not much to say about it, but Mason wrestled great. He really controlled the matches,” Vandall said.

The Wolves’ meet in Circle got canceled for Saturday due to weather for Harlem traveling.

The girls are heading to State in Lockwood. This is the first year for all girls state wrestling meet.

“Both girls are right about where we want them. We are looking forward to this weekend, it should be fun,” Vandall said. “If they wrestle the way they have the last two weeks, we should have a good weekend. I feel they both can make a push. I’m not going to make predictions. but we feel we can pull what some would call upsets. Can’t wait to see what happens.”

The boys will be idle until Feb. 26-27 for divisionals in Glasgow.

“I would love to get some hometown support on this weekend to light up the Wolf Point Wolves’ Facebook page with support for these girls. Let them know you stand behind them and support them on the history that is being written this week,” Vandall said.
