Wolf Point’s aggressive defense kept Harlem in check as the Lady Wolves captured a 54-40 home league victory on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Ahead by an 11-10 margin, the Wolves gained control with the next nine points on five points by Hailey Nelson and four points by J’Elle Garfield for a 20-10 lead.

Harlem countered with a three-pointer by Gabi Bell, but two free throws by Josie Kolstad put Wolf Point up 22-13 to end the opening quarter.

The Wolves took further control by accounting for 12 of the first 14 points of the second quarter. Four straight points by Jaylee Azure started the quarter. After a basket by Harlem’s Vanise Little at the 6:40 mark, the Wolves scored the next eight on four by Hamilton, a drive by Azure and a layup by Katelyn MacDonald.

Wolf Point went on to lead by a 36-21 half-time margin.

The scoring of Azure and Garfield led the Wolves to a 42-29 lead early in the third quarter, but the Wildcats were able to pull to 44-32 at the end of the quarter.

The Wolves put together six straight points on two free throws by Azure, a basket by Jodi Houg and a hoop by Hamyanie Campbell for a 52-36 advantage with 5:03 remaining.

Wolf Point then did a good job of working the clock for the 14-point victory.

Top scorers for the Wolves were Garfield with 16 and Azure with 13 points. Also scoring were Kolstad with six, Hamilton with six, Nelson with five, Campbell with four, MacDonald with two and Houg with two.
