Eastern C Squads Prepare For Tourneys
The top basketball teams of the Eastern C will gather in Sidney on March 3-6 for the Eastern C divisional basketball tournament. Two teams from the boys’ tourney and two squads from the girls’ tourney will advance to the Class C state tournament at Lockwood High School in Billings.
First-round games in the boys’ tournament include Scobey facing Richey/Lambert at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, Dodson meeting MonDak at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Froid/Lake playing Plentywood at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, and Fairview taking on North Country at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 6.
Froid/Lake and defending state co-champion Scobey enter the action as the tournament’s top seeds. Scobey has defeated the Red Hawks in two close contests during the regular season including one overtime victory.
If Fairview and Froid/Lake each post opening-round wins, it could set up an interesting semi-final round battle. Froid/Lake beat Fairview by only one point, 46-45, in their only meeting this season.
The girls’ tournament also begins on Wednesday with North Country playing Circle at 9 a.m., and Froid/Lake facing Lustre Christian at 11 a.m. First-round games on Thursday include Plentywood meeting Savage at 5:30 p.m. and MonDak taking on Scobey at 7:30 p.m.
North Country and Plentywood are the two number- one seeds entering the tournament. North Country, undefeated for the season, defeated Plentywood twice during the regular season. The two number-two seeds are Scobey from District 3C and Froid/Lake from District 1C.
